A FLATTENED WHITE AND RUSSET JADE SNUFF BOTTLE
The pebble-shaped bottle is finely carved on one side with a pavilion in a mountainous landscape with turbulent waves beneath. A four-character inscription is intaglio-carved to one side in seal script, shoushan fuhai, 'mountain of longevity, ocean of fortune'. The reverse is left plain with the exception of a single bat in flight, its wings picked out using the russet markings of the stone. The stone is of milky white color with russet and grey inclusions.
2¾ in. (6.9 cm.) high, plastic stopper
A private Los Angeles collection, acquired in the 1950s-1960s.
