A FLEMISH HISTORICAL TAPESTRY
Second half 16th early 17th Century
Woven in wools, depicting a King in Roman armour seated on a scallop-shell encrusted and scrolling throne beneath a canopy, before him four attendants, one paying tribute with a casket of gold coins, and one man in armour kneeling, and to the left with two further soldiers, within a narrow folded scrolling border and a later brown outer slip, the main field reduced in height to the base, areas of reweaving and patching and heightening with colour, the lower border later
