Of rectangular breakfront form, the top with balustrade mounted with four foliate and fruit finials, the central section comprising seven concealed drawers, as a pedimented portico with central niche enclosing the figure of a saint, flanked to each side by a further four drawers, each inset with two pietre dure panels depicting Roman ruins and town and waterscapes, the sides inlaid with a siena, lapis lazuli and pietra dura panel, the lower section with shaped frieze with three finials, on four twisted column supports to the front and a pair of plain supports to the back, joined by a stretcher

Lot Essay

This cabinet on stand is inspired by articles from the Florentine "opificio delle Pietre Dure" workshop, created in 1588 under the patronage of Ferdinand I, Grand Duc of Tuscany.

Similar cabinets on stands, inlaid with panels of pietre dure flowers, rather than the more unusual landscapes, as here, were sold in these rooms 29 October 1998, lot 281 and 26 February 1998, lot 220.
