Lot Essay

The original of this work, an oil on canvas, was painted in 1783 and hangs in Versailles. Elizabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun earned an international reputation for her portrayals of royalty and aristocratic society in France and throughout Europe during the period 1775-1825.
