A French ormulu-mounted kingwood bombe commode by Francois Linke, with serpentine eared breche violette marble top above two drawers inlaid sans traverse with radiating veneers within rocaille cartouche, the sides similarly inlaid, with foliate scroll clasps trailing to gilt sabots, stamped on mount F.Linke -- 48½in. (123cm.) wide, 22½in. (57cm.) deep, 37in. (94cm.) high.
The use of a concave scallop-shell held by tendrils of acanthus, (suggesting the shape of a crab with outstretched claws) as seen especially in the apron of this commode, is a notable feature of the mounts produced in Linke's workshop. See 19th European Furniture Christopher Payne, 1981, p40 for a discussion of Linke's work.
