PLEASE SEE IMPORTANT NOTICE CONCERNING EXPORT OF IVORY ON PAGE 5.
Victor Keats, The Illustrated Guide to World Chess Sets, Batsford
Ltd 1985, page 115. It is mentioned that ivory sets were carved in
numerous workshops in the Dieppe area. Possibly inspired by the finer
Parisan examples, the pieces were modelled on particular peroids and
historical persons, often including a recognisable contemporary. These sets were also typically stained either a blue-green or blue-red.
