Flattened rectangular gold box with narrow sides, the hinged cover and base inset with semi-translucent blonde tortoiseshell panels inlaid in gold piqué posé, on the cover Bacchus in his chariot drawn by two leopards and two satyrs, with a satyr chasing a Bacchanal and a bird hovering above, bordered by scrolling gold foliage, the base similarly inlaid with a goat-herder and two goats in a wooded landscape, the gold mounts and sides with reeded rims and engraved with stylized foliage
