A George II ebonised and brass-mounted striking bracket clock, circa 1730
The case with brass handle to an inverted bell top, knopped finials to the angles, with two glazed panels to the sides, the front door with silk-backed brass fishscale quarter frets and the rear door with pierced wood frets, the moulded base raised on later brass ball feet, the brass dial with engraved border and male mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers and signed Thomas Moore IPSWICH, the matted centre with mock pendulum and date apertures with engraved borders, ringed winding holes, piered blued steel hands, the arch with subsidiary silvered strike/silent ring with Gothic script, the centre engraved with birds flanking a basket of fruit, the four ringed pillar twin wire fusee movement now with anchor escapement, strike on bell, repeat train lacking, the back plate elaborately engraved with foliate scrolls and also with two birds flanking a fruiting basket, with repeat signature -- 18in. (46cm.) high to hilt of handle
