Lot Essay

Related drawer-fitted 'chamber tables' were supplied in the 1720s for Houghton Hall, Norfolk (A. Moore (ed.), Houghton Hall, London, 1996, p. 92). This pattern of lambrequined leg also featured on a set of tables supplied in 1758 for Dumfries House by the Edinburgh cabinet-maker Alexander Peter (see F. Bamford, 'Dictionary of Edinburgh Furniture Makers', Furniture History, 1983, pl. 8).
