This spider-gateleg table is the property of Jeremy Hoare, Esq.
The provenance is:
Probably supplied to either Henry Hoare, Esq. (1705-1785) for Stourhead, Wiltshire or his brother Sir Richard Hoare (1709-1754)of Barn Elms, Surrey, Lord Mayor of London 1745, and by descent at Stourhead.
Sir Richard Hoare was a well-known patron of William Linnell (d. 1763), who supplied much furniture (including a 'neat spider table', for Barn Elms, Surrey) some of which was moved to Stourhead in the late 19th Century.
