A related burr-walnut settee of double chair form was with M. Turpin Ltd. in 1996. Both settees display the same distinctive double railed backs. H. Cescinsky referred to a related chair at Forde Abbey, Dorset, as having a 'double rail hooped back' (English Furniture of the Eighteenth Century, 1909, vol. II, fig. 9). It is appropriate that this settee is sold with three volumes of P. Macquoid's A History of English Furniture, including The Age of Walnut, in which it is illustrated as figure 208.
