Another round-toed 'spider' table was invoiced in 1768 as an '8 leg Table of fine wood £2.2.0', when supplied for Mersham-le-Hatch, Kent in 1768 by Thomas Chippendale of St. Martin's Lane (C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. II, fig. 410 and pp. 222, 230).
The present table, bearing a 'Kingsthorp' label, may have been supplied to the Rev'd Sir Henry Bate Johnson (d. 1824) of Kingsthorpe Hall, Northamptonshire, whose portrait by Thomas Gainsborough was executed around 1780.
