This model of vase perfume-burner is firmly attributed to Matthew Boulton's Soho manufactory on stylistic grounds. The most striking similarities are to pieces of Boulton and Fothergill's silverware. A silver perfume-burner illustrated in N. Goodison, Ormolu: The Work of Matthew Boulton, London, 1974, pl. 156, is supported on a similar tripod of which the figures, although decorated differently, are clearly from the same source.
One from each of two pairs of this model, with small differences, are illustrated, ibid., pls. 157-158. A third pair were sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 6 July 1967, lot 48
