The monogram EDC of this and the preceding lot is for Ernest, Duke of Cumberland and EAFs for Ernest August Fidekommiss (i.e. held in trust). These initials appear to have been engraved on all pieces left in Hanover in the Royal possession there on Victoria's accession to the English throne. A portion of this same dessert service by Eley and Fearn, comprising 35 pieces, was in the collection of Sir Harold Wernher at Luton Hoo, and sold at Christie's, New York, April 21, 1998, lot 189.
