Lot Essay

The table bears the partial label of 'J. GAR...', which almost certainly refers to Joseph Garbut, recorded at North Street, Prince's Place and Regent Hill, Sussex, as a cabinet-maker and upholsterer (1821-32) (The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers: 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, p. 329).
