Rectangular box with rounded corners and waisted sides, the cover inset with a finely painted enamel plaque depicting a shipwreck at stormy sea in a harbour, in the manner of Vernet, within a blue enamelled mount, raised four-colour gold mount cast with a waterleaf and tongue band on a matted ground, the four sides and base engine-turned with a peaked reptile's skin pattern, the frosted borders stamped with foliage, flowerheads, scrolls, and snake dragons on the base; with gilt-stamped red morocco case lined with white silk and velvet
