A GERMAN JEWELLED AND ENAMELLED VARI-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX BY DANIEL MARCHAND (FL. 1733-1794), MARKED, HANAU, CIRCA 1780 oval box, the cover, sides and base set with panels of dark-blue enamel over a peak-pattern engine-turned ground, the cover centred with an oval enamel portrait miniature of a gentleman in a blue coat and white cravat within a diamond-set frame, vari-colour entrelac outer borders, the four side pilasters chased with swags on a sablé gold ground, the base centred with a gold rosette 3 5/8 in. (85 mm.) wide
