The associated rectangular speckled black granite top over a leaf tip-carved concave cornice, on lion monopodia front legs and tapering faceted columnar back legs, over a rectangular under tier with outset rounded corners, on upturned leaf-carved feet, carved to the back, formerly with a wooden top

Lot Essay

Karl Friedrich Schinkel supplied a very similar table to the Prussian court in 1827-28. By 1834 it was in the Crown Princess' Study in Schloss Charlottenhof in Potsdam, as a period watercolor shows. See Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Berlin, 1982, p. 187. The same table is illustrated in H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des deutschen Möbels, vol. III, Munich, 1973, no. 516.
