A German silver-gilt sweetmeat-dish Augsburg, circa 1635-40, maker's mark IB monogram Shaped oval, on reeded oval foot, the fluted sides with chased with a band of hearts, with two scroll handles, the interior stippled with a floral spray, the underside of the foot engraved with an inscription and monogram, marked on side 5in. (12.8cm.) long 5oz. (176gr.) The inscription reads, HER IVNGENRATH HANS * WILHELM * ZVR * MATTEN * 1639

Almost certainly bought by Beriah Botfield, Esq. (1807-1863), Norton Hall and by whom bequeathed to the Thynne family.
