A Gilt Bronze Figure of Manjushri
Tibet, 16th Century
Finely cast seated in dhyanasana over a lotus base with molded tips, incised foliate scroll border and beaded rims, his hands in the gesture of teaching flanked by two lotus stalks supporting his attributes of the sword and book, his left shoulder wearing a sash snaking across his chest with delicate foliate borders, his dhoti with linear folds and incised foliate motif, cinched by a beaded belt with overhanging lappets at rear, adorned with elaborate necklaces, diadem, armlets, bracelets, and anklets inlaid with various hardstones, his head slightly tipped to the left in a benevolent expression with delicately arched brows under lidded eyes and mouth in a slight smile, his hair arranged in a high chignon topped by a jeweled cintamani with loose strands falling over his shoulders, base sealed
