The Wiener Werkstätte began its own production of ceramics in 1916. With the exception of Peche, all of its most notable artists were women. Hoffmann recalled in his autobiography:
"The ceramic workshop soon attracted many artists. They delved enthusiastically into the mysteries of this ancient and wonderful craft, and learned how to use appropriate glazes."
Gudrun Baudisch was a member of the Wiener Werkstätte from 1926 - 1930, and her ceramic work had considerable influence on the output of other artists in this medium working there at the time. She was close to Vally Wieselthier, another ceramicist, and they together designed the cover of the 25th anniversary catalogue, produced in 1928. (See lot 57)
