    A GOURD CRICKET CAGE WITH IVORY MOUNTS, 19TH CENTURY
    the flat ivory cover embellished with green staining, the central roundel carved with scholars objects including a sword, basket, scroll and fan upon a pierced star motif ground, surrounded by a band of alternating Shou and Wan motifs, the double gourd fruit partially hollow with plain ivory rim -- 3 7/8in. (9.8cm.) high, fitted textile bag.

    From an English private collection acquired in China during the 1940's.
