QING DYNASTY, 18TH-19TH CENTURY
Comprised of five ruyi including a gilt-bronze piece decorated on the shaft with the Eight Buddhist Emblems; a polychrome lacquer piece carved on the head, handle and terminal with the sanduo, bats and double-fish on a yellow diaper-ground; a cinnabar lacquer piece decorated on the head with a landscape scene featuring two scholars playing chess accompanied by an attendant and the handle with dense carvings of prunus blossoms and double gourds; a bamboo piece carved and pierced in the form of a gnarled branch issuing lingzhi; and a hardwood example inlaid with two white jade plaques, one carved with an elephant and the other with a vase containing peonies.
