A LAC BURGAUTÉ SNUFF BOTTLE JAPAN, 1860-1920 The bottle is decorated with abalone shell and gold inlay on the black lacquer ground with various 'precious objects', the sides, neck and stopper are decorated with intricate geometric patterns. The base is inlaid in shell with a two-character archaistic mark. 2 ½ in. (6.4 cm.) high, original lac burgauté stopper
