Further details
Finmar Ltd. was established in 1934 by Philip Morton Shand, a founding member of the Modern Architectural Research Group (MARS), and Geoffrey Boumphrey, a writer for the Architectural Review. Finmar Ltd. operated throughout the 1930s as a wholesale and marketing company for Aalto's Finnish-manufactured furniture. Initially supplying a wealthy clientele after the Fortnum & Mason exhibition of January 1934, Finmar subsequently supplied progressive retailers such as Heals, Liberty's, Bowman Brothers, and P.E. Gane in Bristol, and was instrumental in establishing Britain as the largest export market for Aalto's furniture.
