The broad pear-shaped body decorated with deer and cranes amidst a continuous landscape of rocks and various kinds of trees, with waves between two of the rocks on the lower body and clouds in the sky on the neck below the ruyi collar, the foot encirlced by red-blossomed foliate sprays

Lot Essay

The shape and inclusion of deer on this vase are most likely based on the famille rose-decorated porcelain vases known as 'Hundred Deer' vases. Here the deer are combined with cranes, and as both deer and cranes are symbols of longevity, the decoration on this vase is especially auspicious.
