meiji period (late 19th century), signature rubbed and illegible
Of ovoid form with short neck and extended, rolled lip, painted in colored enamels and gilt with two large rectangular panels of mallards swimming under wisteria vines and by spring flowers, and a cockerel and hen and four birds, maples and autumn flowers, the background of each panel grey with tiny gilt dots and the border gilded key frets, the areas surrounding the panels of lotus scroll and grape vines delineated in gilt and thick enamels of red and blue on a ground of dark blue, the interior of the lip also dark blue and the edge gilt
