INDIAN SILVER FROM THE RAJ - A LONDON COLLECTION
Christie's is delighted to offer this selection of Indian silver from the main Indian schools of the 19th century. The Kutch school is best represented with a large punch bowl decorated with lively hunting scenes whilst other pieces are fine examples of Madras silver and the swami style. From northern India is an elegant baluster ewer decorated with typical Kashmiri maple (chinar) leaves. This collection offers a rare opportunity to acquire fine examples from the Raj period. It illustrates the development of the various local styles as well as the craftsmanship and talent of Indian silversmiths.
