Intriguingly, a number of closely related clocks appear in Spanish collections, some with Spanish inscriptions, and it is probable that this ornate late Louis XVI model was popular among Spanish collectors during the late 18th and early 19th Century. These include two from the collection of King Charles IV, which are discussed in J. Raman Colon de Carvajal, Catalogo del Patrimonio Nacional, Madrid, 1987, pp. 68 and 79, nos. 51 and 62. A further related example, with similar black marble fluted pilasters is illustrated in F. Tardy, La Pendule Française, Paris, 1961, p. 123.
