A LATE MING CLOISONNE ENAMEL 'DRAGON AND PHOENIX' BASIN
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The flattened interior of the basin enamelled with a dragon and a phoenix confronted on a central flaming pearl amidst colourful ruyi clouds, surrounded by a lotus scroll on the upright cavetto, and on the flattened everted rim with three pairs of chilong dragons, each pair confronted on a red shou character, the underside with further lotus scrolls, the exterior sides decorated with mythical beasts galloping above a turbulent sea with waves crashing against blue jagged rocks
