In the Dutch taste, the shaped top with pierced gallery over a panelled cupboard door enclosing a shelf centering a ribbon-entwined oval inset with a lacquer panel depicting a mountainous landscape, flanked by pendant rectangular panels inset with similar lacquer panels, with canted corners headed by brass roundels, on square tapering panelled legs and bun feet, stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER

Lot Essay

The stamp is that of the celebrated English firm of cabinet-makers, Gillows of Lancaster, which flourished in the 18th century and throughout the 19th century.
