Lot Essay

This Shaker settee bears close stylistic similarities to one from Enfield Village, New Hampshire, currently in the collection of Bob Hamilton and illustrated in Timothy D. Rieman and Jean M. Burks, The Shaker Furniture Handbook (Exton, PA, 2005), p. 87, fig. 84. In both of these settees, the Windsor influence is clear but reflects the Shaker modifications to the style.
