Paris, 1756/1757, maker's mark rubbed, with the charge and discharge marks of Eloy Brichard 1756-1762
Rectangular black patch-box of Chinese gold and black lacquer appled with silver, the cover and sides lacquered in gold and silver with birds and a temple in a landscape, the scalloped gold mounts with applied scrolling gold thumbpiece, the interior with three compartments, the open oblong front compartment containing a small brush with black lacquer handle and gold loop, the two symmetrical rear compartments gold-mounted with hinged lids and gold thumbpieces, painted with a pagoda and birds in gold and silver lacquer on black and fitted to contain the patches and the glue, the inside of the lid inset with a mirror
