This fauteuil de cabinet -or rotating desk chair- can be firmly attributed to Georges Jacob (1739-1824). This famous menuisier has created several models of such rotating desk chairs. The first models have slightly shaped legs and C-shaped arms supports; examples of such chairs are illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 2002, p. 462. The design of the present lot was created later in his career. The baluster-shaped acanthus-wrapped arms-supports, which appear on this armchair, are of a design which was often used by Jacob and appear on several fauteuils stamped by him.
