A LOUIS XVI SPLIT-PEARL SET ENAMELLED AND GOLD BONBONNIÈRE
by Jean-Auguste Lorentz (fl. 1781-1793), marked, Paris, 1784/1785, with the second charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel 1782-1789, the flange struck with inventory number 65, later struck with two French post-1864 import marks for gold
Circular box, the independent cover and base inset with panels enamelled in translucent blue embellished with gold and green paillons, lid and base centred by an Altar of Love within flower garland surrounded by wreaths of green flowerheads within gold ovals with radiating swag borders, the scalloped gold borders enclosing foliage and pellets, the four side panels similarly enamelled, the lid within half-pearl border surrounded by fluted gold rims, four matching side dividers, the matted and stamped side and base gold borders decorated in four-colour gold with husks, pellets and scrolls, the inside gold-lined
