The breakfront shaped brèche violette marble top above a conforming case set with three frieze-drawers over three cupboard doors, opening to reveal a shelved interior, the panelled doors and sides hung with garlands and inlaid with loose bouquets, the angles with turned columns, on toupie feet

Lot Essay

The design for the present side cabinet is taken from the lacquered model by Martin Carlin, supplied to the marchand Darnault and delivered at a cost of 6,500l to Madame Victoire at the château de Bellevue in 1785. A 19th century lacquered copy of this model was sold Sotheby's New York, 1 November 2000, lot 251 ($69,750).
