A LOUIS XVI THREE-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX
by René-Jean Lemoyne (fl. 1775-1793), marked, Paris, 1780/1781, with the first charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel 1780-1782, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Oval box, the cover, sides and base engine-turned with horizontal reeding scattered with pellets, the lid centred by an oval reserve chased with a pair of doves beckoning on a tambourine with flowers, an arch and two quivers, on a sablé ground, the sides with four similar reserves chased with trophies of gardening, love and music, the frosted borders chased with raised beads
