Lot Essay
                                The glazing of the bookcase cabinet, in Roman-mosiac fashion with octagon compartments, features in Thomas Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1754 (pl. 69); while the fretted ribbon-guilloche of its commode frieze relates to one of his 'Gothick' fret patterns (pl. 156).
