A teabowl and saucer in the Otto Höffer Collection from the same service was sold in these Rooms on 5th July 2004, lot 36, and also had the same slightly different borders on each piece. A related teapot and two teabowls and saucers with similar decoration were sold in these Rooms on 30th March 1987, lots 165-166; the borders were more simple and the teabowls and saucers bore crossed swords in underglaze blue and enamel. A bowl with similar decoration, probably from the same service, is illustrated by Ulrich Pietsch, 'Early Meissen Porcelain' Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte der Hansestadt Lübeck (and others) November 1993 - April 1994 Exhibition Catalogue (Lübeck, 1993), pp. 70-71, no. 56, where he discusses the differences between the opal lustre used here, and Böttger lustre.
