A Meissen porcelain gilt purple-ground 'Kauffahrteiszenen' chocolate cup and saucer
CIRCA 1735, MARKED WITH UNDERGLAZE BLUE CROSSED SWORDS AND GILDER'S MARK S., THE CUP WITH INVENTORY NO. 596 IN BRIGHT RED
Painted in the manner of C.F. Herold with merchants at various pursuits at quaysides, the cup with a quatrefoil cartouche within a gilt border, with gilt double-scrolled handle, the saucer with a cartouche en suite surrounded by Goldspitzenbordüre and purple and Eisenrot scrolls, the border and inside of the cup with elaborate Goldspitzenbordüre
