A MESOPOTAMIAN POTTERY INCANTATION BOWL FOR MAIHARNAHOD BAT BOTUS
Circa 4th-7th Century A.D.
The shallow bowl inscribed primarily in Judeo-Aramaic and some Hebrew with a thirteen-line incantation, largely unreadable, for healing bad dreams, the text mentions the demon Lilith, with the name of God highlighted throughout, the end of the incantation includes a quotation from the Old Testament, Zechariah 3:2, "And the Lord said unto Satan, the Lord rebukes you, Satan, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you; is the man not a brand plucked from the fire?" in Hebrew the incantation then includes the Jewish priestly benediction, "May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord cause his face to shine upon you and show favor unto you. May the Lord raise his face unto you and grant you peace," the incantation ends, "Amen Amen Selah"
