The Bounty (ex-Bethia) was an armed transport that was commissioned to sail to the South Pacific and bring breadfruit trees back to the West Indies for transplanting. The story of the H.M.S. Bounty is well known. Captain Bligh set sail on December 23, 1787 for Tahiti, arriving on October 26, 1788. After five months on the island the Bounty weighed anchor with more than a thousand breadfruit trees. Twenty two days later 5 members of the crew led by Fletcher Christian, seized the ship in a bloodless mutiny. After several un-successful attempts to land at different locations, until they landed on Pitcairn Island where they burned the ship. The story goes on with some of the mutineers escaping and other being captured.
