Rectangular, on two gadrooned feet, the border of translucent lilac enamel over chequered ground, with ribbon-tied laurel swags suspended from a tied ribbon cresting, the outer mount chased and engraved with foliage and rosettes at the corners, with gadrooned bezel, the central panel of white glass with black and red lettering holding a mercury thermometer, the wooden back with scroll strut and suspension ring, gilt white metal, marked on mount, strut and ring, in original velver and silk-lined wooden box, the cover stamped in Russian 'K.Faberg St.Petersburg' with Imperial warrant
