Lot Essay

The Medici Mercury: the original model of 1580, of 170cm. high, now in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence (since 1828) (Inv. Bronzi 449). Formerly on a fountain in front of the loggia of Villa Medici, Rome (until 1780); Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, Florence; Uffizi Gallery.
