This tavern sign exhibits a distinctive stylized design loosely modeled after the National Seal of the United States. A tavern sign with closely related paint decoration is illustrated in Susan P. Schoelwer, ed., Lions & Eagles & Bulls: Early American Tavern & Inn Signs from the Connecticut Historical Society, (Hartford, 2000), pp. 132, cat. no. 20. In both examples, the eagles have a heart-shaped body with drooping wings and bony legs.
The phrase "Entertainment" was commonly used in American tavern signs and was not limited to a specific event.
