Gérard-Jean Galle exhibited a surtout-de-table in the 1819 Exhibition de l'Art et de l'Industrie in Paris after a design by his father, Claude. Several of these objects were engraved by J.V. de Moléon in his Déscription des produits de l'industrie française depuis leur origine jusqu'à celle de 1819 inclusivement, Paris, 1824, which also included a related vase (H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel, et. al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. II, p. 711, fig. 30).
A Closely related pair of vases with reeded bodies was sold anonymously at Sotheby's London, 13 December 1991, lot 269, and a further entirely gilt pair was sold anonymously at Christie's New York, 1 November 1989, lot 47.
