Lot Essay

A pair of virtually identical ornaments was sold Sotheby's Monaco, 4 March 1984, lot 570. The figure of Cupid follows the celebrated model by Antoine-Denis Chaudet, first exhibited in 1802 (see also lot 399 in this sale).
