With their wine-wrapped acanthus leaf issuing from a herm, these chenets relate to the design by Franois Rmond of Circa 1780 for a pair of 'Feux Lamballe' executed for Marie-Thrse, Princesse de Lamballe (H. Ottomeyer P. Proschel et. al, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 279, fig. 4.12.3).
Bronziers, the Bouhon brothers or Bouhon et Cie specialised in bronze-decorated fire-places and fire-fittings. The firm participated in the 1878 and 1900 Paris Expositions Universelles.
