    Lot Essay

This pair of torcheres originally came from Stormont Castle, Co. Down, which was rebuilt in the Scottish Baronial style in 1858 for the Cleland family by the Belfast architect, Thomas Turner. It is now the Belfast Headquarters of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Parliament house having been built in its grounds.
