In 1760, the Elector of the Palatinate, Carl-Theodor (Kurfürst von der Pfalz) received an extensive Sèvres porcelain service of King Louis XV. He was very impressed and ordered a similar service from the Frankenthal porcelain factories in the 1770's. These Frankenthal- inspired Höchst examples can be dated around the 1770's.
cf. Catalogue Museum für Kunsthandwerk, Frankfurt am Main, Deutsches Porzellan, ill. 251 and ill. 252 for Frankenthal examples.
